Am I Burned Out? An Emergency Physician’s Story

Am I Burned Out? An Emergency Physician’s Story

Every story will be different. Every path to burnout is unique. Every recovery story is personal. The important piece of this is that our stories are being told so that if you happen to be going through the throws of burnout like I was, and are oblivious, perhaps you will glean strength, courage and tools to overcome. It has been very recent that I have actually began to own my story. I have been talking more about it and realizing that it needs to be told in the hopes that someone else will benefit from it.

As Fate Would Have It…

It is funny how the universe allows for you to interface with just who you need to in order to thrive. I have been carrying the appellation of occupational burnout survivor for a while now. In fact, that term is listed in my social media profiles, but I just had it there without much of a back story. One day, I got a message on LinkedIn from Dr Dianne Ansari-Winn asking me if I would like to be on her podcast, The Doctor’s Life with Dr Dianne Ansari-Winn. At first, I was not sure what I would talk about but as we chatted, it became clear that I had to share my experience with burnout.

She reached out to me and for this I am grateful. Something about my LinkedIn profile struck a cord and prompted her to message me. After our connection, I looked up the podcast and started to listen to it. I found myself being encouraged and enlightened by the accounts of her guests. So, instead of reassuring me, that exercise caused me to question whether I would perform as well as previous guests had. This of course did not deter me from going for it.

Feel The Fear And Do It Anyway

If you know anything about me, you know that I am driven to do things that spark fear in me (barring physically dangerous activities of course). It is just that I have found in the last several years in particular that when I face the fear and do it anyway, great things happen.

This situation was no different. She asked me if I would do the podcast and I said yes even though I was afraid.

I would love for you to listen to the episode and tell me what you think.

If you are going through burnout, just know that you have many shoulders to lean on. You can do this and the help is here for you. Click To Tweet
