Mom Life: Swimming Hair Challenges…What’s a mom to do?
Do you have girls who like to swim? Do your girls have thick, plentiful and or curly hair?
So we have been blessed with two vibrant little girls. Our cherubs love to swim and attend swim school at Goldfish Swim School every week. I love that they love swimming. What I don’t love is what chlorine does to their tightly curled hair. Our older daughter has been especially blessed with an abundance of hair that is thick and healthy. Repeated exposure to chlorine can thwart the healthy progress of both of their tresses.
So what is a mom to do?
As promised, here is the link to the Swimtastic long hair swim cap
Managing thick tightly curled hair while swimming
- Treat with a leave-in conditioner
- Cover with a swim cap
- Deep condition hair
- Use Baking Soda on areas of hair that get wet, followed by a deep conditioner
It’s summer time and our girls love going to the pool so I have do my best to preserve the health of their hair as they enjoy the water.

After writing this blog, I got a great tip from a fellow doctor mom, Dr. Nosizwe A. Sellers. “Using leave in conditioner under the cap is a must. I used a swimmers conditioner. Swim out I believe is the name from Sally’s. Washing or at least rinsing the hair immediately after swimming is the next must. This kept my hair protected and healthy”.
Be strong. Be brave. Unleash your greatness!
