Top Tips for Meal Planning for the Busy Working Mom

Are you a working mom who gets stressed out about meal prepping for yourself and your family? Are you stuck when it comes to what to make or are you tired of making the same meals each week?  It does not have to be this way. Trust me I have been there and often times when I fail to plan end up right back there.

This is a frustrating on many levels. Often if we don’t put thought into the meal plan beforehand, we get caught in the trap of convenience foods that may not be healthy for ourselves and our families.

Tips For Success

  1. Designate Meal Planning Time. Literally have a designated day and time each week to sit down and plan the week’s meals. This will enable a positive habit to form. Your week will go a lot smoother if you take a mere 15-20 minutes on the weekend to meal plan. Download the meal planning tool and shopping list template to assist you in making the most of your meal planning time.
  2. Start preheating the oven as soon as you walk in the door on those nights when you’ll be needing it to prepare your meal. This simple step can cut down on your prep time.
  3. Prep Ahead As Much As Possible. Chop the veggies. Steam the rice or quinoa. Try to do as much prep ahead of time on the weekend to cut down on the time spent during the week preparing the meals you have chosen. Perhaps making the prep work be a family affair may be in order. You could even prepare proteins like grilled chicken breasts ahead of time and add to salad or pair with quinoa and veggies for a quick healthy meal for your family.
  4. Use a Meal Planning Service. This is something that we use on an on and off basis and has opened up a whole new world of cooking skills and recipe ideas. The service that we have experience with is HomeChef. Check out my previous blog for more information on our experience and for a discount coupon.

Spending a little time on the weekend will make all the difference for those busy  after work week nights. So go ahead and download the complimentary meal planner tool below and get on track with your meal planning. Don’t be frustrated again!
